If you squat with weights, run, or engage in any sport — your joints are under stress. After the age of 30, cartilage tissue regenerates more slowly. Chondroprotectors help support the joints.
Glucosamine
A building block for cartilage. Stimulates the production of synovial fluid ("lubricant" for the joints). Dose: 1500 mg per day.
Chondroitin
Retains water in the cartilage (provides elasticity) and inhibits enzymes that break down cartilage tissue. Dose: 1200 mg per day.
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)
A source of organic sulfur. Reduces inflammation and pain. Improves joint flexibility. Dose: 1000-2000 mg per day.
When to start?
Preventively — from 25-30 years old if you train actively. Don’t wait until it hurts — cartilage has no nerve endings, pain appears when it’s already too late.
Course: 2-3 months, then a break of 1 month.
