It is generally used as an adaptogen and as a general tonic medicinal agent. In Korea and China, ginseng root is also used in cooking. Traditional Chinese medicine claims that ginseng preparations prolong life and youth.

Ginseng has adaptogenic, metabolic, biostimulatory, antiemetic, and general tonic effects, stimulating appetite. The pharmacological activity is due to the content of saponin glycosides-ginsenosides (panax).
