Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is involved in over 50 metabolic reactions, most of which are enzymatic. Its biologically active forms — NAD+, NADH, NADPH, and NADPH2 — play an important role as catalysts in the energy production process in cells, the breakdown of proteins and fatty acids, the synthesis of fatty acids, the formation of steroid hormones, and red blood cells. Niacinamide acts similarly to niacin without the characteristic 'flush'.
