Biotin is a water-soluble B vitamin that can positively affect a number of structures and functions in the body. In a clinical study, 45 patients with brittle nails took 2.5 mg of biotin orally for 1.5–7 months. 91% of patients showed "noticeable improvement." Their nails became harder and denser after about two months of consumption.

Increased amounts of biotin, such as those contained in the Biotin-8 supplement from Thorne, support glucose metabolism, stimulate glucose-induced insulin secretion in pancreatic beta-cells, and accelerate glucose metabolism in the liver. Biotin also enhances muscle sensitivity to insulin, increasing glucose uptake by muscle cells.
