For B vitamins to be used by the body, they must first be converted into active coenzyme forms. This more potent Coenzymated™ B-6 is in its active form and ready to work immediately. Pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (PLP or P-5'-P) is the primary metabolically active form of the coenzyme of vitamin B-6. P-5'-P is synthesized mainly in the liver from pyridoxine using enzymes that require B-2, zinc, and magnesium for their activity. P-5'-P activates over 100 enzymes, many of which are involved in converting amino acids into neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. P-5'-P is also necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin and plays an important role in regulating homocysteine levels.
